After the failure of Nanban, he decided to concentrate on his acting skills and after a few years he began to appear in different popular Tamil films earning good revenue. However, he never got the same recognition as Ravi Varma. Another reason for his low income was that Tamil film directors preferred to pay him less because of his British accent. After some time, as his popularity increased he was given a leading role in a high budget tamalameez film called ‘Endhiran’.
After working in various Hindi films and some very good Tamil films, Nandamuri Kalyan finally decided to try for a shot at national stardom with a tamalameez blockbuster ‘Kodambakkam’. However, his contribution to that film was barely a cameo and his film didn’t even earn him a dime. After some time he got another hit with the movie ‘Nanban’. Although Nandamuri failed to hit the big time with his second film, he was finally given his third, welcome film ‘Mankatha’ in 2021.
After a couple of months, Nandamuri was on the way to Hollywood. He was finally asked to star opposite Denholm Elliott in the film ‘Iruvar’. Surprisingly, the film managed to garner good reviews from critics as well as movie lovers. A few weeks later Nandamuri was featured in the movie ‘The Railway Man’ opposite Michael Gambon. The film was a flop considering the fact that the independent film industry in India is not large enough to support a Hollywood production.
Since then Tamil cinema has been enjoying a good fortune. Nandamuri has been featured in countless films, won several Film Fare and Screen Awards and has also worked in Hollywood. Nandamuri’s latest film ‘Endhiran’ is set to release in the next couple of months. He will surely receive the kind of recognition that he deserves for his outstanding contributions to the tamalameez.
